Job Title:

SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER – PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TEAM (PDT)

Reporting to:

The post holder is accountable to the Line Manager

Responsible for:

Primary Purpose

To provide the conceptual and detailed design input at the system and sub-system level, in the field of mechanical, into engineering projects to meet the requirement specification.

Secondary Purpose

To support technical proposals and submissions and to provide an engineering input throughout all phases of the project across core markets as required.

Authority

The post holder has full authority for conducting the tasks directed by the Line Manager and the Project Leader, where appropriate and for the technical supervision of any junior staff allocated to his tasks.

 

 

 

Qualifications/Experience:

Essential -

Engineering degree or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years experience in the Aerospace/Defence environment, preferably in a hydraulics/ control/ actuation related industry.

Outline of Job Requirements:

•  To create system and subsystem design specifications and interface specifications which capture and decompose the customer's requirements.

•  Where appropriate, to create standalone specifications for sub-contracts which reflect the customer and Company requirements.

•  To provide robust conceptual and detail designs to satisfy the customer's requirements.

•  To prepare design support documentation, conduct design calculations and maintain concise engineering records.

•  To optimise system design and development activities.

•  To ensure that engineering staff works to Company procedures.

•  To provide and maintain costs.

•  To ensure the safety of both the design and working environment.

•  To ensure that the design is qualified and satisfies the Contract Acceptance requirement.

•  To assist Production in ensuring produciblity of the design and provision of special-to-type test equipment.

•  To guide and advise junior engineering staff.

•  To motivate personnel to achieve maximum performance and to foster cordial working relationships.

•  To assist the Line Manager in defining and implementing training.

•  To promote the concept of total quality management throughout the development.

•  To liaise with customer.
